Greys Anatomy – Katherine Heigl Interview
Grey’s Anatomy – Nora Zehetner and Robert Baker joining the cast
It’s a prescription for professional rivalry when Grey’s Anatomy introduces a trio of new doctors during its sixth season.
Nora Zehetner and Robert Baker have been cast as two of the recurring residents surfacing in Episode 5, TVGuideMagazine.com has learned exclusively. Zehetner (familiar to TV fans from her runs on Heroes and Everwood) will play a doc described by a source as “feisty, very smart and competitive.” As such, she is poised to butt heads with at least one member of Meredith Grey’s posse. Baker, from The CW’s short-lived Valentine, has been cast as the seemingly nicest of the new residents, who may be hiding a nastier side.
The casting of these recurring players comes as Grey’s prepares to bid adieu to T.R. Knight’s George (in the two-hour season opener) and accomodate Ellen Pompeo’s maternity leave. But the precise why of the docs’ arrival is the big mystery here—and one that series boss Shonda Rhimes isn’t willing to reveal.
Grey’s Anatomy – Exclusive Look at George O’Malley’s Funeral
George O’Malley’s funeral on the heartbreaking Grey’s Anatomy two-hour season opener on September 24 will reverberate through the halls of Seattle Grace long after the dead doc’s casket is closed. Nearly everyone will be present—including a frail Izzie in a headscarf—to mourn George’s passing at a graveside service attended by George’s mom (but not by his ex, Callie). A show source tells me that Meredith will deal with the death in a “very Meredith-like” way. “The doctors are processing this huge moment of grief,” says Jessica Capshaw, whose Dr. Arizona Robbins will be holding down the fort and attending to patients. “My character previously lost her brother, so I’ll be helping Callie process this horrible loss.”
Likewise, Dr. Owen Hunt will be assisting Cristina through her mourning process. “Owen is so used to losing colleagues that he’ll become a rock for others to help them deal with it,” says Kevin McKidd about his Iraq-vet character. “Cristina is in denial about it, and he’s there for her at that moment when she actually realizes what has happened.”
Cristina is also expected to finally open up to Owen about her baggage with her ex, Burke, who left her at the altar in 2007. And later on in the upcoming season, a hospital vacancy will be filled by someone who shares a past with Owen. That, Kevin promises, will “shake things up.”
Grey’s Anatomy Season 6 Premiere: “Heavy”
That’s what Jessica Capshaw, the newest Grey’s Anatomy cast member (as Dr. Arizona Robbins), teases as we count down the days until the new season of the ABC medical drama.
“Heavy” is the best way to describe this season, as compared to Season Five, according to Capshaw. Between that and the Private Practice premiere, it should be a wild week of TV.
Below, the 33-year-old actress spills on how Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona are going to progress in this coming season, along with why the Grey’s premiere is the best yet:
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 6 Preview
September 24. Mark your calendars, kids. That’s the date when ABC drama Grey’s Anatomy resumes its ‘operations’ with a two-hour premiere that will reveal the fate of several characters whose lives were left hanging in the balance during the end of last season.
Read on to find out what to expect on Seattle Grace in this Grey’s Anatomy Season 6 preview.
Thanks to Katherine Heigl talking incessantly about it, we all know now that Izzie will “survive the disease that no one does” to successfully make it to Grey’s season 6, while George (TR Knight) will not be returning except inside a casket in a funeral scene. ABC has confirmed that the sixth will mark the first season when Knight won’t be part of the regular cast, while Jessica Capshaw, who plays lezzie peds surgeon Arizona Robbins has been promoted to series regular.
Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes had been quoted as saying that the show’s sixth season is “important” since it’s all about transitions. She moreover thinks Grey’s can have a future beyond its core cast, supposing they “play their cards right.” For instance, Ellen Pompeo, who plays central character Meredith Grey, is currently on maternity leave. Said Rhimes, “We have a lovely story that will take us into her maternity leave.”
As far as season 6 storylines are concerned, among the most heavily anticipated are those of Izzie and George. But also set to be answered are the following: will Bailey (Chandra Wilson) accept the peds fellowship and be happy about it; will Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) finally see a movie together all lovey-dovey after she confessed her love for him; and will Callie (Sarah Ramirez) and Arizona finally patch things up after all the “awesome” comments that Arizona made regarding George’s joining the army.
A ‘Dark’ Season Coming Up for ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
Haven’t we had enough darkness on Grey’s Anatomy?
Kevin McKidd teases that something big is in the offing on Grey’s Anatomy, reports Entertainment Tonight. “Something happens that is seismic to the hospital,” he said. “In these economic times, things start to come down the pike that start to impact people’s lives. So the stakes become higher as the season goes on.”
What could this be? Of course, when you hear the word seismic, you immediately think about earthquakes (but don’t count on it, really). Seattle Grace has had its fair share of disasters, natural or manmade. Be it bombs or flooding or blizzards, this hospital had seen it. But then, why would McKidd qualify his statement by couching it “in these economic times?” Will there be cutbacks in the staff? We already know that at least three interns will join Seattle Grace. Does this mean the hospital might be letting go of – gasp – doctors?

As if that’s not bad enough, the actor who plays trauma surgeon and Cristina Yang love interest Owen Hunt cautioned that this season is going to be “dark” – in no small part thanks to George!Death. In relation to that, he said, surely, that season 7 will “start in grief.”
I can’t stop thinking of that “dark” part. I think most Grey’s Anatomy
fans would agree with me that season 5 is a pretty dark season, the majority of which had Izzie battling cancer if she wasn’t sleeping with Dead!Denny. Early in the season, we saw Seattle Grace’s ranking go down to #12, a deadly ice storm, a flood, the departure of Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith), a bunch of interns cutting each other, and a very creep death row patient.
In relation to that, we found out that a majority of our readers think that Izzie (Katherine Heigl) will be the most heavily affected by the death of George – with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Callie (Sarah Ramirez) a distant second and third. How’s that for a combo? Surviving cancer (if ever) then finding out that your best friend is dead? Didn’t she suffer enough when Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) died? I wonder how many of these tragedies can Izzie take.
Since the McKidd quote left us more questions than answers, what else is there to do except tune in on September 24 when Grey’s Anatomy returns.
